Brocade offers free one-year licence on virtual router

Network solutions company Brocade has offered customers a free one-year license for its recently released Brocade Vyatta Controller. The virtual router is available as a free download starting today.

The company has claimed that Brocade Vyatta Controller allows enterprises and service providers to explore and vet their Software-Defined Networking (SDN) use without investing time and money on hardware acquisition or software integration.

The free licence allows a user to manage up to five physical or virtual network nodes in a non-production environment. The offer includes 60 days of free 24×7 worldwide access to Brocade technical assistance center. A production license for the Brocade Vyatta Controller, though, is priced at $100 per attached node per year including support.

The Brocade Vyatta developer edition provides a set of tools, including templates, libraries, and testing environments, to help developers write and test SDN applications and to deploy them into service. It is free of proprietary extensions, to allow developers to run applications on any other OpenDaylight-based controller. In addition, developers retain full intellectual property rights to the applications they build.

“We know organizations want programmable networks and Brocade is clearing a path for those who want SDN today,” said Neela Jacques, executive director, OpenDaylight. “From a health care provider who needs to customize network operations to a campus organization that wants faster provisioning, there are countless use cases for SDN and many we haven’t even thought of yet.”
