At its annual developer’s conference, the company revealed next-generation Agilex 3 FPGAs, which are optimized for power and cost efficiency, and announced new development kits and software support for its Agilex 5 series.

The newly announced Agilex 3 FPGAs are designed to meet the demanding needs of embedded and intelligent edge applications. They boast increased integration, enhanced security, and higher performance in a compact design, featuring up to 135K logic elements. The Agilex 3 family includes an on-chip dual Cortex A55 ARM processor with programmable fabric and AI capabilities, supporting applications such as autonomous vehicles and industrial IoT.

For defense and commercial projects, Agilex 3 FPGAs incorporate significant security features, including bitstream encryption, authentication, and physical anti-tamper measures. These additions make them ideal for time-sensitive, high-security applications like smart factories and robotics.

Altera’s Agilex 3 FPGAs use the company’s HyperFlex architecture, delivering a 1.9x performance boost over the previous generation, with additional support for high-speed transceivers and LPDDR4 memory. Software support will begin in Q1 2025, with development kits and shipments slated for mid-2025.

Altera also announced updates to its Quartus Prime Pro software, enhancing development efficiency with faster compile times and improved support for embedded applications. The company, along with its ecosystem partners, unveiled 11 new Agilex 5 FPGA-based development kits and system-on-modules, expanding its already robust portfolio.

Sandra Rivera, CEO of Altera, emphasized the company’s commitment to working with partners to deliver cutting-edge programmable technologies that enable innovation across industries like data centers, aerospace, automotive, and more.
