AirWatch adds Teacher Tools to manage mobile devices in classroom

Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) vendor AirWatch on Tuesday launched Teacher Tools to empower teachers to manage mobile devices in the classroom.

The application allows teachers to guide the learning experience effectively and improve classroom management, with features including All Eyes Up Front, Single Application Mode and Clear Passcode in an intuitive user interface, said AirWatch in a statement.

Teacher Tools enables educational institutions to extend the real-time management capabilities used by IT administrators to teachers in a simplified interface.

AirWatch’s architecture allows for simple management across students, classrooms, schools and districts. Teachers can associate each student with the assigned device and manage devices for different classes, groups of students or individuals.

The All Eyes Up Front feature helps teachers to orchestrate the classroom by locking devices during whole class instruction to ensure students are paying attention to the instructor and to remove device distractions.

Single Application Mode supports the movement towards the flipped classroom by providing teachers with the opportunity to lock a student or a small group of students into an application selected by the instructor for a specified amount of time.

The Clear Passcode function allows instruction to continue by enabling teachers to instantly clear and reset a passcode without having to lookup the device serial number.

Teacher Tools is available on Apple iOS devices and joins AirWatch’s suite of tools for educational institutions.

AirWatch Secure Content Locker distributes sensitive files, such as a textbook, syllabus or legacy content, to student and faculty devices.

With the AirWatch Browser, IT administrators and teachers can whitelist or blacklist websites, ensuring students navigate only to approved sites, whether over cellular or Wi-Fi networks.
