XO Communications adds Bandwidth-on-Demand to manage unexpected spikes in network traffic

XO Communications announced a new Bandwidth-on-Demand business networking capability for its WAN services that assists IT and network managers to manage unexpected spikes in network traffic.

XO Bandwidth-on-Demand capability allows XO network connections expand to accommodate extra traffic in the event of unforeseen increases, while maintaining pre-selected Quality of Service (QoS) characteristics.

Alternative solutions are either pre-scheduled through a portal or burst at only a best-effort service level, said XO Communications.

Don MacNeil XO Communications

Don MacNeil, chief operating officer at XO Communications, said: “A business can cost-efficiently commit to and pay for a low average usage rate, but have the assurance of increasing bandwidth, on the fly and with assured performance, without having to predict and pre-schedule for anticipated periods of peak usage.”

XO Bandwidth-on-Demand is available with XO network services to power customers’ integrated network and cloud computing strategies. Businesses can use XO Bandwidth-on-Demand to support secure, high-performance network connectivity to public, private, virtual private as well as hybrid cloud environments.

Recently, XO Communications announced that it is a Direct Connect Partner of Amazon Web Services (AWS).

In a report called Building for the Future: What the New World of Cloud IT Means for the Network, Forrester Consulting said 75 percent of enterprises are using or plan to use cloud-based services. Of these, 88 percent believe that cloud-based services will have an impact on the network.

IT and network managers can simplify network management with wide area network (WAN) services such as MPLS IP-VPN and VPLS from XO Communications.
