Motorola Solutions buys Calipsa to use AI-powered analytics

Motorola Solutions announced the acquisition of London-based start-up Calipsa to boost its ability to use AI-powered analytics across any video security solution.
Motorola Solutions Safe Hospitality SolutionMotorola Solutions supplies public safety and enterprise security products and services. Motorola’s products include end-to-end security solutions, camera technology, and features such as alcohol age verification.

Motorola Solutions earlier acquired Ava Security, a global provider of cloud-native video security and analytics, based in London, U.K.

Ava Security’s solution provides enterprises with real-time visibility and analytics to optimize operations and detect anomalies and threats. The platform offers organizations the benefit of an enterprise-grade video security solution while minimizing the physical footprint of their security infrastructure.

Calipsa’s technology will enable Motorola’s products to analyze data using AI in the cloud, Motorola’s Software and Mobile Video CTO Mahesh Saptharishi said.

Calipsa used advanced machine-learning algorithms to process video, and alert a user only when required to an event such as somebody breaching a secure area or somebody not complying with safety rules like wearing protective clothing.

Calipsa, founded in London in 2016 by a team from Cambridge, UCL and Imperial Universities, says its technology can reduce the number of false alarms in video monitoring systems by more than 90 percent.

Motorola Solutions in March announced the acquisition of TETRA Ireland Communications, a provider of Ireland’s National Digital Radio Service (NDRS).

TETRA Ireland delivers mission-critical voice and data land mobile radio communications to first responders and frontline workers from national security and enforcement agencies, health and emergency services, state utilities and volunteer organizations across the country. The network is based on the latest TETRA digital radio technology from Motorola Solutions.
