Infinite Software has a contract to migrate IBM’s AS/400 applications to Linux and the Oracle database for one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies.
The client has been operating a large data center of IBM I Series (AS/400) LPARS. These systems operate on a proprietary database that does not allow the data to be easily accessed by other applications in use by the company or its partners and affiliates. Most of those other applications operate under the Oracle Database.
The Infinite services will migrate the applications to Linux and data to Oracle. Since the data will be migrated to Oracle and new data produced from the system will be written to Oracle, the other applications currently running Oracle will have immediate and real time access to the information produced by all the applications in use by the client.
The client will achieve cost-saving, support for open systems and much more functionality using the Oracle database in the future, said Raquela Kaplan, marketing director, Infinite Software.
