The size of the automotive software market is projected to more than double in size from $31 billion in 2019 to roughly $80 billion in 2030, McKinsey & Company said in a report.

The announcement outlines the joint venture’s mission to deliver automotive software solutions, including software-defined vehicle (SDV) technologies tailored for BMW Group’s premium vehicles. Additionally, the venture will spearhead digital transformation initiatives, targeting the enhancement of business IT within the BMW Group’s operations.

Initial operations of the JV will commence with a workforce of 100 employees, with plans for growth in the coming years. The venture aims to expand its employee base to a four-digit number, signaling a substantial investment in India’s software talent pool.

Christoph Grote, Senior Vice President of Software and E/E Architecture at BMW Group, emphasized India’s rich talent pool in software development, highlighting its potential to bolster BMW Group’s software competence.

He underlined the venture’s commitment to providing Indian software engineers with opportunities to shape advanced automotive experiences, particularly in domains such as highly automated driving and artificial intelligence.

The hub’s primary activities will be concentrated in Bengaluru and Pune, with Chennai serving as a focal point for business IT solutions. Leveraging Tata Technologies’ expertise in digital engineering and its talent network across India, the venture aims to fortify BMW Group’s global software coding capabilities while ensuring seamless 24/7 operations.
