AirWatch Chat for iOS and Android to be available at end of Q3 2014

AirWatch by VMware, a provider of enterprise mobility management solutions, introduced AirWatch Chat, a secure instant messaging application for iOS and Android.

The chat service will be available for enterprises at the end of Q3 2014.

Supporting the mobility initiatives in enterprises, the new AirWatch Chat allows employees to securely exchange messages with one another across an organization.

The chat service is designed to support highly regulated industries like healthcare, government, finance, legal, etc.

Commenting on the importance of secure chat solutions in enterprises, Stacy Crook, research director for mobile enterprise research, IDC, said, “The ability to provide employees with a secure, internal communication tool is especially important for highly regulated industries and security-conscious organizations.”

Companies deploying AirWatch Chat will benefit from the FIPS compliant algorithms and familiar user experience found on consumer SMS applications, AirWatch said.

Key features of AirWatch Chat include enterprise-grade security, data loss prevention capabilities, native user experience that reflects consumer SMS applications and administration settings such as enabling AirWatch Chat on Wi-Fi only and usage as software-as-a-service or on-premises.

“AirWatch enables the enterprise to secure mobile content from end-to-end, but when employees use consumer SMS applications, they may inadvertently expose sensitive information and compromise mobile security,” said John Marshall, senior vice president and general manager, AirWatch by VMware.

AirWatch also offers enterprise mobility applications such s AirWatch Inbox, AirWatch Browser and AirWatch Secure Content Locker. Recently U.S carrier Sprint selected AirWatch to manage its corporate-owned and employee-owned devices across thousands of Sprint employees.
