Ministry of Commerce and Industry unveils eBiz portal developed by Infosys

The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce and Industry – Government of India announced the launch of eBiz portal developed by Infosys.

The portal which aims at transforming and developing a conducive business environment in India was launched by Union Minister of Commerce, Industry and Textiles, Anand Sharma, at the CII Partnership Summit in Agra.

eBiz is India’s first Government-to-Business (G2B) portal. It has been developed by Infosys  in a public private partnership model to provide a one-stop shop for online G2B services.

eBiz is an Integrated Mission Mode Project that aims at providing Central Government, State Government and Local Administration related services in accordance with global e-Governance standards under the National e-Governance Plan of the Government of India.

The portal aims at reducing delays and complexity in obtaining information and services. The portal will help investor and business communities in India to obtain services relating to planning, starting and operating businesses in India including licenses, approvals, clearances, obtaining no objection certificates, permits and filing returns.

The first phase of this project will provide investors an interactive tool to assess license and permit requirements to setup and operate a business in India.

Anand Sharma said, “We are firmly committed to wide-ranging initiatives aimed at fostering the business environment in the country in a holistic manner. Our approach includes leveraging technology to bring transparency, improve efficiency and promote convenience. eBiz is an important step in this direction and we are pleased to work in partnership with Infosys on this project, which we hope will become a benchmark for successful public private partnerships in the country.”

V. Balakrishnan, member of the board and head – India Business Unit, Infosys, said, “The eBiz portal is a program of national importance and will provide better governance, transparency and ease of use for businesses in india. We are confident that our prior experience of working with the Income Tax department and our strong consulting and systems integration capabilities will enable us to continue executing the future phases of this project successfully.”

Infosys will roll out services in a phased manner during the 10 year program. In the first year, 29 services will be unveiled in the five states of Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. In the second and third years, an additional 21 services will be launched in five more states. From the fourth year onwards, the project is expected to see more than 200 services rolled-out across the country.
