Mexican Government selects Oberthur Technologies to supply identity document solution

Infotech Lead Europe: The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Relations (Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriories) has selected Oberthur Technologies to supply a high-tech identity solution for the new Mexican passport.“Oberthur Technologies is proud of the confidence shown by the Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriories in Mexico for the implementation of their new secure passport. For Mexican citizens, this new passport is a big step forward, in optimum secure identity and an assurance of reliability,” said Patrick W. Hearn, VP Government ID Markets-Americas.

Oberthur Technologies is the world’s second largest provider of smartcards’ based security and identification solutions and services. Oberthur Technologies has provided identity document solutions in Brazil, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, Nicaragua and now Mexico. To implement secure passports to its citizens, the Mexican government will use Oberthur Technologies’ solution which combines a high-level secure component with dedicated technical equipment.

Oberthur Technologies offers secure and reliable identity solutions through several service centers throughout South America, including one in Mexico, which issued over 17 million personalized secure cards in 2012. It is a key player in the identity documents market and trusted partner of numerous governments in South America.

In 2011, Advent International acquired Oberthur Technologies as it saw the company’s potential across all segments: payment, telecommunications and identity.

Earlier this year, Banco Bradesco, one of the largest private banks in Latin America, selected Oberthur Technologies to provide EMV card personalization and fulfillment services. In December 2012, Oberthur Technologies was appointed by Westpac Group, one of the leading Australian banks, as the exclusive payment cards and services provider for its Australian and Pacific Banking businesses.

Other than identity, the products and services developed by the company  addresses the ever-changing needs of the payment, mobile, transport, convergence and digital TV market segments as well.
