Public cloud provider spending surges 32% in first quarter

A report said public cloud provider spending on infrastructure hardware and software grew 32 percent in the first quarter of 2018.
Public Cloud Infrastructure Q1 2018Synergy Research Group said this is the highest growth achieved in nine quarters. Year-on-year growth has been in the 10-20 percent range in nine quarters.

ODMs account for almost 30 percent of total revenues from the global public cloud provider spending on infrastructure hardware and software. Dell EMC, Cisco and HPE have 5-10 percent market share each. Microsoft, Huawei and VMware are the other leading vendors in the public cloud segment.

Total public cloud infrastructure revenues, including hardware and software, reached $11 billion in Q1 2018.

Servers, OS, storage, networking and virtualization software accounted for 95 percent of the Q1 public cloud infrastructure market, with the balance comprising cloud security and cloud management.

By segment, ODMs dominate server and storage hardware shipments, followed at a distance by Dell EMC, HPE and Cisco.

Cisco has a clear lead in networking, despite the continued strong growth of Arista. Microsoft and VMware are leaders in the infrastructure software segments.
