IDC’s North America Distribution Tracker for Q3 2024 said distributor revenue reached $20.2 billion, a marginal increase from the previous quarter but a small year-over-year decline.

Growth in Key Sectors: Strong performance in Software (up 11.8 percent year-over-year), Personal Computing (2 percent growth), and Security. However, Network Infrastructure, Services, and Audio-Visual (AV) saw declines.
PC Market Recovery: Personal Computing reached $3.6 billion, with notebooks up 4.6 percent year-over-year, reflecting a post-COVID recovery. A significant shift was noted toward AI-enabled PCs, which now comprise 24 percent of notebook revenue, marking a 142 percent increase year-over-year.
Software Gains: Major software categories grew, especially Embedded Software, which rose 22.8 percent, driven by Cisco’s hardware installations requiring updates.
Cybersecurity Growth: Security software saw a 7.4 percent rise, with a 2.6 percent growth in security appliances, primarily from Palo Alto Networks, which commands nearly 42 percent market share in this segment.
