India IT spending to grow at 6.6% to $94 billion in 2020: Gartner

IT spending in India is forecast to grow at 6.6 percent to $94 billion in 2020 – driven by mobile devices — from $88.5 billion in 2019, according to Gartner.

Business spending on IT grew 6 percent in 2019 and is expected to increase 9 percent in 2020, said John-David Lovelock, research vice president at Gartner.

Growth in software spending will be driven by 17 percent growth in enterprise application software in 2020. The increase in overall business spending will help drive 16 percent growth in enterprise mobile phone spending in 2020, pushing growth in the devices segment to 6.3 percent.

Consumer resistance to investing in devices has impacted overall IT spending in the country.

IT spending will increase in the next two to three years as the economy benefits from the goods and service tax (GST) implemented by the Indian government in 2018, said Arup Roy, research vice president at Gartner.

Data Center Systems spending will reach $3.819 billion with expected growth of 2.5 percent in 2020 as compared with $3.726 billion in 2019.

Spending on Software will grow at 15.2 percent to $7.354 billion in 2020 from $6.383 billion in 2019.

Spending on Devices will increase at 6.3 percent to $35.468 billion in 2020.

IT services spending in India will achieve a growth rate of 13.4 percent to $17.897 billion in 2020.
Communication service spending is forecast to grow at 2 percent to $29.788 billion in 2020.
