IT market research agency IDC has revealed the market share of Cisco, Aruba- HPE, Ruckus Wireless and Aerohive in the global wireless local area network (WLAN) space for Q1 2016.

Cisco’s enterprise WLAN revenue increased 2.7 percent in Q1 2016 with a market share of 45.2 percent against 45 percent in Q4 2015 and 47.8 percent in Q1 2015.

Aruba-HPE’s WLAN revenue declined 2.3 percent in Q1 2016 to achieve market share of 15.8 percent in Q1 2016, against 15.9 percent in Q4 2015 and 17.6 percent in Q1 2015.

Ruckus’s WLAN revenue rose 21.3 percent taking 7.7 percent of the WLAN market in Q1 2016 against 6.7 percent in Q4 2015 and 6.9 percent in Q1 2015.

Ubiquiti revenue from WLAN increased 63.3 percent accounting for 4.3 percent of the WLAN market in Q1 2016 against 2.7 percent in Q4 2015.

Aerohive achieved 62.9 percent increase in its WLAN revenue taking 2.3 percent share compared to 2.5 percent in Q4 2015.

The combined consumer and enterprise WLAN market segments increased 4.5 percent year over year, while declining 10.7 percent on sequential basis.

Enterprise WLAN segment grew 8.6 percent year over year in Q1 2016 – driven by refresh cycles, easing of economic concerns, availability of Wave 2 802.11ac products, and fulfillment of e-rate contracts in the education vertical in the United States.

Consumer WLAN market revenue was flat because the adoption of the 802.11ac standard in the consumer market was significantly slower than in the enterprise segment.
