External OEM storage revenue grew 9.7% to $6.9 bn in Q2: IDC

Dell Technologies (26.8 percent), HPE (10.9 percent), NetApp (9.9 percent), Huawei (8.9 percent), Hitachi (4.9 percent), IBM (4.7 percent) and Pure Storage (4.1 percent) are the leading storage ystems suppliers in Q2 2021.

The latest IDC report said revenue for enterprise external OEM storage systems grew 9.7 percent to $6.9 billion during the second quarter of 2021.

Total external OEM storage capacity shipped was up 27.9 percent year over year to 22.1 exabytes during the quarter.

Storage revenue generated by original design manufacturers (ODMs) selling to hyperscale datacenters declined 7.7 percent to $6.4 billion, while capacity shipped grew 13.8 percent to 88.7 exabytes.

Enterprise storage capacity shipments for the entire market (External OEM + ODM Direct + Server-Based Storage) increased 25.2 percent to 156.1 exabytes.

Enterprise External OEM Storage Systems

Dell Technologies was the largest external enterprise storage systems supplier, accounting for 26.8 percent of revenue.

HPE/H3C was the second largest external enterprise storage systems supplier with 10.9 percent of revenue.

NetApp had 9.9 percent share in external enterprise storage systems market.

Huawei had 8.9 percent share in external enterprise storage systems market.

Hitachi (4.9 percent), IBM (4.7 percent), and Pure Storage (4.1 percent) are the other leading vendors in the external enterprise storage systems market.

The total All Flash Array (AFA) market revenue rose 7.6 percent to $2.7 billion during the quarter.

The Hybrid Flash Array (HFA) market revenue increased 13.3 percent to $2.8 billion.
