Worldwide IT spending is forecast to increase 5.1 percent to $4.6 trillion in 2023 as against 0.8 percent growth in 2022 and 10.2 percent increase in 2021, according to the latest forecast by Gartner.
Demand for IT in 2023 is expected to be strong as enterprises push forward with digital business initiatives, the report said.
Spending on Data Center Systems will increase at 3.4 percent to $216.262 billion from $209.190 billion (+10.4 percent) in 2022.
Spending on Software will increase at 11.3 percent to $879.625 billion in 2023 from $790.385 billion (+8 percent) in 2022.
Spending on Devices will drop 0.6 percent to $735.394 billion in 2023 from $739.982 billion (–8.4 percent) in 2022.
Spending on IT Services will increase at 7.9 percent to $1,357.914 billion in 2023 from $1,258.150 billion (+4.2 percent) in 2022.
Spending on Communications Services will increase at 2.4 percent to $1,469.220 billion in 2023 from $1,435.401 billion (–1.7 percent) in 2022.
“Enterprise IT spending is recession-proof as CEOs and CFOs, rather than cutting IT budgets, are increasing spending on digital business initiatives,” said John-David Lovelock, Distinguished VP Analyst at Gartner.
Many consumers are deferring 2022 device purchases until 2023, driving spending on devices down 8.4 percent in 2022 and 0.6 percent in 2023.
