Dell gains as HPE and Cisco drop cloud IT infrastructure share

Cloud IT infrastructure products revenue from server, enterprise storage, and Ethernet switch rose 47.2 percent to $16.8 billion in the third quarter of 2018, the latest IDC report said.

IDC said cloud IT infrastructure spending in 2018 will reach $65.2 billion with 37.2 percent growth.

HPE and Cisco lost their cloud IT infrastructure market share in Q3 2018 as compared with Q3 2017. Dell, Inspur and Lenovo grew their share in the worldwide cloud IT infrastructure market, the IDC chart shows.

Dell with 14.2 percent share, HP Enterprise with 9.8 percent share, Cisco with 6.4 percent share, Inspur with 6.3 percent share and Lenovo with 4.8 percent share are the top Cloud IT infrastructure vendors during the third quarter of 2018.

Public cloud IT infrastructure spending grew 56.1 percent to $12.1 billion in Q3.

Spending on private cloud infrastructure rose 28.3 percent to $4.7 billion. IDC said spending on private cloud will grow 23.3 percent in 2018.

Spending on cloud IT infrastructure will be 47.4 percent of the IT infrastructure vendor revenues in 2018.

Spending on Compute platforms will grow at 59.1 percent, Ethernet switches at 18.5 percent and storage platforms at 20.4 percent.

Natalya Yezhkova, research director, IT Infrastructure and Platforms, said: “We expect some slowdown in 2019 as the overall market cools down and some cloud providers work through adjustments in their supply chain.”
