Distributed denial of service (DDoS) mitigation product revenue reached $517 million in 2015, IHS Markit said. It is projected to reach $925 million by 2020.
DDoS prevention appliance worldwide revenue was flat quarter-over-quarter in Q1 2016, totaling $147 million.
The research firm said the total number of DDoS attacks is skyrocketing. Application layer attacks are becoming more common and even volumetric attacks are evolving.
Much of the activity and growth in the DDoS mitigation appliance space is being driven from enterprise, hosting and cloud data centers.
Enterprise data center deployments continue to grow particularly well in the first quarter. Major cloud, hosting, large service provider and major internet brands continue to invest in high-performance DDoS mitigation to protect their data centers.
The mobile segment is growing the most dynamically. It is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 19 percent during 2015 to 2020.
