Cisco Systems has displaced D-Link to lead the Indian WLAN market with a 27.5 percent share in Q2 2017, according to IDC.
HPE achieved double-digit growth in Q2 2017 due to significant uptake from Government and education sector.
The Indian WLAN market fell 8 percent to $43.1 million.
Gateway router segment witnessed significant drop due to GST implementation. Majority of the partners have slowed down their stocking of gateway routers as they are uncertain about the taxation polices / rates. Access Point category witnessed significant growth due to the uptake from education and government sector.
Ethernet Switch market
Cisco dominated the Ethernet Switch market due to increased spending from telecommunications and banking verticals.
HPE is the second largest Ethernet Switch market player in India.
Juniper Networks is the third largest Ethernet Switch company in the country.
Juniper Networks and Nokia achieved triple-digit growth in the Indian Ethernet switch market in Q2 2017.
Router market
Cisco Systems has dominated the router market in Q2 2017, due to significant uptake from telecom players. Mobile operators such as Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, Idea Cellular, Vodafone, among others invested heavily in expanding their mobile data networks.
Nokia is the second largest router company in India thanks to its deals in telecommunication vertical and smart city projects.
Ethernet Switch market in India posted growth of 22.8 percent to $135.5 million. Telecom, BFSI, professional services, government and education were the key contributors in Q2 2017. Government initiatives such as smart cities, digital India, Make in India etc. would drive incremental investments for Ethernet switch segment in the Indian market.
Router market in India grew 26.9 percent to $87.1 million. Telecommunications, professional services and government contributed to the growth in router market.
Telecommunication operators are investing significantly on 4G networks expansion and VoLTE roll-outs in India. Router vendors are expecting some deals with companies such as BSNL and MTNL as well.
“Networking market is expected to grow due to digital initiatives, 4G rollouts, VoLTE rollouts, Wi-Fi campus, Hotspots, etc. Majority of the organizations are opting for digital transformation and investing in technologies like Digital Assistant, IOT, AR/VR, Robotics, ML, etc. to stay ahead of competition,” said Dileep Nadimpalli, associate research manager, Enterprise Infrastructure, IDC India.
The Ethernet Switch, Router and WLAN market are expected to grow in single digits in terms of compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for 2016-2021.
BFSI, Telecommunications, Government and education verticals are expected to attract incremental growth in the near future.
