Cisco leads in India LAN market, D-Link tops in WLAN segment: IDC

The Ethernet Switch market in APeJ witnessed a Y-o-Y growth of 7.2 percent in Q2 2016 to attain USD 110.4 million in vendor revenues while the Router market grew 31 percent to USD 68.6 million, IDC said.

In India the networking market posted Y-o-Y growth of 10.5 percent, IDC said.

Cisco is ranked no.1 in India LAN market, followed by Huawei and Juniper, says IDC’s APeJ Quarterly Switch and Router tracker.

While Cisco grabbed 63 percent market share, Huawei’s share rose to 9.5 percent and Juniper came third with 6.9 percent. Huawei witnessed a significant year on year growth in market share from 6.6 percent to 9.5 percent in Q2 2016 due to uptake from telecom players.

Brocade, F5 networks and Array Networks showed a strong Year on year growth in Q2 2016.

Increased spending from both service provider and enterprise segment drove the switching market in Q2 2016. Demand for L3 and ADC increased significantly across organization in Q2 2016.

The growth of switching market was propelled by Banking, Automobile, Education and Professional services organizations.

Router market witnessed a growth of 31 percent Year on year in Q2 2016 due to investments from service providers segment for 4G rollout expansion.

In Enterprise space, majority of the growth was driven by Professional services, Banking and Discrete Manufacturing units in Q2 2016. High-end routers saw a huge uptake from service providers segment where in SOHO routers were the clear winner in Year on year growth in Q2 2016 amongst enterprise deployments, IDC said.

The WLAN market in India clocked a Year on year de-growth of 4.8 percent in Q2 2016 registering USD 46 million, where D-Link topped with 29 percent market share followed by Cisco and TP-link.

India WLAN marketIn India the WLAN market was mainly driven by access points category. Consumer segment witnessed a growth while enterprise and service provider business declined Year on year in Q2 2016.

Personal and Consumer Services, Transportation, Telecommunications and process manufacturing units were the key contributors towards Year on year growth in Q2 2016. Increasing adoption of IoT is expected to drive WLAN market especially in Retail, Healthcare and Manufacturing verticals in the near future

D-Link continued to lead the market with 29 percent share followed by Cisco and TP-link. D-link and Cisco saw a Year on year de-growth while TP-link, Netgear and Brocade posted a strong double digit Year on year growth in Q2 2016.

According to Gaurav Sharma, research manager – Enterprise & IPDS (India), “Networking market is set to grow on the back of digital initiatives, 4G rollouts and campus, consumer and enterprise need to always stay connected. Network is expected to be the next disruptor and the avenue for innovations as organizations look to conquer its space in this highly competitive, analytical and information driven world.”

In India, the LAN market is expected to grow in single digit in terms of CAGR for 2015–2020, IDC said. BFSI and Government segments are expected to attract incremental growth in the near future. Huge uptake from third party datacenter players is expected to address the demand for cloud.

The WLAN market in India is expected to grow in single digit in terms of CAGR for 2015–2020. Wireless upgrades to 802.ac would be the key growth driver among Consumers & Enterprises segments. Increased adoption of BYOD would fuel growth for WLAN in near future, IDC said.
