Cisco gains WLAN share as Aruba-HPE lost in Q2

The consumer and enterprise WLAN market segments rose 1.9 percent to $2.5 billion in the second quarter of 2018, said IDC.

The enterprise WLAN market grew 2.6 percent to $1.5 billion. Consumer WLAN market revenue increased 0.8 percent to $1 billion.

Cisco with 43.6 percent, Aruba-HPE with 15.1 percent, ARRIS-Ruckus with 6.7 percent, Ubiquiti with 5.7 percent and Huawei with 5.1 percent are the top enterprise WLAN suppliers in the world.

“Enterprises continue to explore new ways WLAN deployments can help connect workers, enable engagement with customers, and improve business processes,” said Brandon Butler, senior research analyst, Network Infrastructure at IDC.

Cisco’s enterprise WLAN revenue increased 3.3 percent year over year and rose 12.5 percent sequentially. Cisco’s enterprise WLAN market share rose to 43.6 percent in Q2 2018 against 43.3 percent in Q2 2017.

Aruba-HPE WLAN revenues fell 10.3 percent year over year but increased 38.9 percent from Q1 2018. Aruba-HPE’s WLAN market share stands at 15.1 percent in 2Q18, down from 17.2 percent in 2Q17.

ARRIS/Ruckus grew 19.3 percent year over year and 1.5 percent sequentially. ARRIS/Ruckus accounts for 6.7 percent of the enterprise WLAN market, up from 5.8 percent in the same quarter of 2017.

Ubiquiti’s WLAN revenue increased 10.8 percent year over year. Ubiquiti accounted for 5.7 percent of the enterprise market from 5.3 percent.

Huawei WLAN revenue increased 16 percent over 2Q17 and surged 42.8 percent sequentially from 1Q18. Huawei WLAN share was 5.1 percent as compared with 4.5 percent in 2Q17.
