IDC has revealed the market share of Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, Check Point, Fortinet and Symantec in the global security appliance market in the second quarter of 2017.
Technology vendor revenues from security appliance market increased 9.2 percent to $3 billion and shipments grew 7 percent to 706,186 units in the second quarter.
Cisco lost its security appliances market share to 15.9 percent in Q2 2017 from 16.3 percent in Q2 2016.
Unified Threat Management (UTM) market revenue reached $1.6 billion (+16.8 percent), the highest growth among all sub-markets. The UTM market represents more than 50 percent of revenues in the security appliance market.
The Firewall and Content Management sub-markets had positive revenue growth with gains of 9.5 percent and 6.4 percent, respectively. The Intrusion Detection and Prevention and Virtual Private Network (VPN) sub-markets experienced weakening revenues in the quarter with year-over-year declines of 11.7 percent and 1.3 percent, respectively.
“Over the last quarter, there has been growth in every region with particularly strong growth in Asia/Pacific. Firewall and UTM continue to be the strongest areas of growth, as those products continue to add security features leveraging and addressing cloud protection,” said Robert Ayoub, research director, Security Products at IDC.
