Netgear ProSAFE 16-port Gigabit PoE smart switch (GS516TP) with PD (PoE Powered Devices) will be priced at $570 for SMBs.
Besides SMBs, the new smart switch will be aimed at educational institutions, hospitals, government agencies, and other networks supporting fewer than 500 users, said Netgear in a statement.
GS516TP with PoE and PD capability enables the GS516TP to make network switch deployment truly free from AC power outlets, providing maximum flexibility for network build-up, modifications and re-layout.
The smart switch is designed for converged networks where voice, video, and data are carried on a single network platform, and is optimized to provide network efficiency, operational cost savings, and ease of management.
It comes with two PD ports that receive PoE power from any PoE source. At the same time, through its eight PoE ports, it can also deliver power to other connected devices such as WiFi access points, IP phones and IP cameras — the first switch specifically designed for SMBs to come to market with this capability.
“The GS516TP is the most cost-effective solution for converged networks requiring maximum flexibility in deployment options, especially where a power outlet is not conveniently available,” said Maggie Wu, senior product line manager for Netgear Switching Products.
