IBM SmartCloud powers Avnet’s cloud solutions for SMBs

Infotech Lead India: Avnet Technology Solutions has selected IBM SmartCloud to serve as the foundation for Avnet Cloud Solutions – Avnet’s portfolio of cloud offerings for small and midsize businesses in India.

IBM SmartCloud will enable Avnet to establish a robust infrastructure for seamless delivery and enhanced customer satisfaction.

Vamsi Mudiam, cloud leader, IBM, India/South Asia, said: “The Avnet and IBM strategic collaboration will focus on every client’s specific compute needs and give them the flexibility and opportunity to scale.”

IBM SmartCloud, which delivers hosted IT infrastructure with on-demand access to virtual server and storage resources, will enable Avnet partners to offer their customers enterprise-level IT at affordable price points.

The enterprise-class public cloud infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) will assist Avnet customers to adopt the robust cloud architecture and service model instead of choosing traditional investment in enterprise IT.

Avnet Technologies reported an annual revenue of $10.8 billion in fiscal year 2012 in sales.

Naresh Desai, general manager, Avnet Technology Solutions, India, said: “As the need for a robust, yet affordable, IT infrastructure rises, cloud computing presents a significant value proposition to customers and service providers.”

Avnet Cloud Solutions recently helped Natural Ice Cream (India) to instantaneously shift their applications without capital expenditure and helped reduce their operating and infrastructure management costs.

Recently Avnet was appointed as pan-European distributor for Wyless, a supplier of wireless M2M managed services which adds Mobile Virtual Network Enabler (MVNE) services to Avnet Memec’s wireless solutions.
