HP increases SMB presence with new HP ProLiant servers

Infotech Lead India: HP has increased its SMB presence with new HP ProLiant servers.

The IT major says that the new and enhanced HP ProLiant servers assist SMBs to accelerate business results by simplifying the deployment, management and maintenance of their IT infrastructure.

HP seeks to increase its market share in server space. AMI Partners says at least 5.1 million small businesses worldwide will purchase their first server within the next five years.

Mark Potter, senior vice president and general manager, Servers, HP, said: “These new HP ProLiant servers are easy to use, highly reliable and cost-effective to maintain, enabling our SMB customers to boost business performance, save time and cut costs.”

IDC’s server market report for the first quarter of 2013 says HP held the number 1 position in the worldwide server market with 26.9 percent factory revenue share. HP’s 14.8 percent revenue decline included weak demand for x86-based ProLiant servers, which were challenged by competitive pricing pressure, and continued weakness in Itanium-based Integrity server revenue.

HP’s rival IBM held the # 2 spot with 25.5 percent share for the quarter as factory revenue decreased 13.4 percent compared to Q1 2012. Demand for IBM’s Power Systems and x86-based System x servers declined year over year while demand for System z improved solidly in the quarter due to the combined effects of a weak year-over-year compare and the continuation of a refresh cycle.

HP claims that the new HP ProLiant MicroServer Generation 8 (Gen8) is an ideal first server that provides simplified setup, management and maintenance with innovative HP Smart Technologies. The HP MicroServer offers centralized, anywhere, anytime data access to employees to boost productivity and collaboration through data sharing—and it is small and quiet enough to sit on a desk.

HP also announced cost- optimized solutions for micro and SMB clients that provide the reliability, flexibility and scalability needed to accommodate current and future business needs. New solutions include the HP ProLiant DL320e Gen8 v2 and HP ProLiant ML310e Gen8 v2.

The new HP ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 delivers the reliability, performance and security of a business server in a whisper-quiet design that is half the size of most competitive entry-level servers, which allows it to be displayed on the floor or desk.

Designed for organizations with less than 10 employees, the HP MicroServer Gen8 shares and secures critical information in a central server. Data and applications housed on the server are remotely accessible from virtually any web-connected device with Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Essentials, improving productivity and collaboration.
