The global installed base of active construction equipment OEM telematics systems  is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.0 percent, reaching 12.1 million units by 2028. The systems include those developed in-house by CE manufacturers or created in partnership with third-party telematics providers.

Europe accounted for approximately 0.9 million active systems in 2023.

North America is estimated to have a slightly larger share than Europe.

Rest of the World represents over half of the global installed base, underscoring the significant demand in emerging markets.

Caterpillar leads the telematics market with over 1 million connected assets, reflecting its dominance as the top construction equipment manufacturer. North America and Europe are Caterpillar’s largest markets for telematics systems.

SANY (China) and Komatsu (Japan) dominate their respective domestic markets, with Komatsu also maintaining substantial shares in North America, China, and Europe.

Volvo Construction Equipment (Sweden) is a key player in the European market.

XCMG, Zoomlion (China), and Hitachi (Japan) hold significant shares in their regions.

JCB (UK) is a major player in Europe and beyond.

Other companies with significant installed bases include Deere & Company, HD Hyundai, and Doosan Bobcat, all exceeding 100,000 units. Meanwhile, Liebherr, Terex, CNH Industrial, JLG Industries, and Tadano have bases in the tens of thousands.

Trends in Adoption

OEM telematics systems are increasingly factory-installed, particularly in heavier machinery, with growing adoption in compact equipment. These systems provide valuable insights for equipment performance, maintenance, and fleet management, enhancing efficiency and operational productivity for end-users.

As the global construction equipment industry advances, telematics systems are set to become a cornerstone of modern fleet management, driven by growing digitalization and connectivity in construction technologies.
