Silicon Labs simplifies IoT development with SiWx917Y modules

Silicon_LabsSilicon Labs, a provider of wireless technology, has introduced the SiWx917Y ultra-low-power Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) 5.4 modules.

These modules aim to streamline the development and certification process for IoT devices while delivering robust connectivity, advanced security, and cutting-edge power efficiency.

The SiWx917Y modules are pre-certified with global Wi-Fi standards and include an optimized antenna, eliminating the need for lengthy RF optimizations and regulatory approvals. This design simplifies integration for device makers, reducing costs, product size, and time-to-market, the company said.

“Wi-Fi for IoT has evolved significantly, creating opportunities for innovation,” said Irvind Ghai, VP of Wi-Fi Solutions at Silicon Labs. “The SiWx917Y modules allow manufacturers to integrate advanced connectivity while focusing on solution differentiation and reducing development costs.”

The SiWx917Y modules integrate Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth LE 5.4, an ARM Cortex-M4 application processor, and advanced peripherals in a compact form factor. Key features include:

  • Ultra-low power Wi-Fi 6 connectivity with intelligent power management, enabling multi-year battery life.
  • Dual-core architecture for dedicated application and wireless processing.
  • Support for Matter protocol, enhancing compatibility for smart home ecosystems.
  • Flexible operational modes for standalone or co-processor use cases.

These features cater to a range of low-power IoT applications such as smart locks, industrial sensors, and healthcare devices, addressing energy efficiency and edge processing requirements.

The rapid growth of IoT devices—estimated at one billion new units annually—demands efficient and secure wireless solutions. The SiWx917Y modules address these needs with energy-efficient design, robust security, and streamlined development capabilities, positioning Silicon Labs as a key player in the IoT connectivity market.

The SiWx917Y modules are now available for purchase.
