Global retail and manufacturing industries have higher awareness about Internet of Things or IoT, International Data Corporation saidTuesday, citing results of its latest IoT decision maker survey.

Among the survey participants, 56 percent of retailers and 53 percent of manufacturers have high awareness of IoT.  72 percent of the healthcare industry believes IoT as strategic, followed by transportation and manufacturing at 67 percent and 66 percent, respectively.

“IoT momentum continues to grow and our survey shows that it is seen as strategic to the enterprise,” said Vernon Turner, Senior Vice President and Research Fellow – Internet of Things.

IDC said 73 percent of its survey respondents have already deployed IoT solutions or plan to deploy in the next 12 months.

IDC surveyed nearly 2,500 respondents from 15 countries, including the United States, Brazil, China, India, and Germany.

The think-tank said the survey was able to provide quantifiable evidence that the Internet of Things is a not just a concept, but a real global accelerator of the 3rd Platform.

Furthermore, the study revealed that respondents continued to view security as leading challenge. They asserted that spending for security is most challenging.
