Freescale launches smallest single chip module for IoT

Freescale Semiconductor has launched the world’s smallest single chip module (SCM) for the Internet of Things (IoT) at the Freescale Technology Forum (FTF) in Austin, Texas.

Freescale’s new SCM line of products can integrate hundreds of components including processors, memory, power management and RF parts.

According to Freescale, the new i.MX 6Dual SCM is designed to function as a computer on a chip and is enabled for DDR memory.

The new chip combines the performance of Freescale’s i.MX 6Dual applications processor together with a power management integrated circuit (PMIC), flash memory, embedded software/firmware, and system-level security technology.

The company said SCM products also reduce time-to-market and allowed 25 percent reduction in hardware development time.

Additionally, new modules are ideal for applications such as 3D gaming goggles and can also be used for wearables, next-generation medical equipment and autonomous sensing applications.

The i.MX 6Dual SCM will be available in August 2015 directly from Freescale.
