Dell has appointed Lenovo and AMD veteran Rory P Read as chief operating officer and president of Worldwide Commercial Sales and Cisco executive Paul Perez as chief technology officer of the Enterprise Solutions Group.
Recently, Lenovo, one of the rivals of Dell, has also strengthened its top management team focusing on enterprise and PC businesses.

Read, who joins Dell after a 30-year career with companies such as Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Lenovo and IBM, will focus on global go-to-market initiatives, omni-channel sales planning and enablement.
Earlier, Read served as CEO and president at AMD, COO and president at Lenovo, and had IBM Business Services leadership responsibilities in the Asia-Pacific region.
Read will lead Dell’s cross-business unit and country-level operational planning to develop Dell’s sales and go-to-market organizations, enhancing the company’s direct selling capabilities. He also will own global systems integrator relationships and the global OEM business.
Perez joins Dell from Cisco Systems where he recently served as vice president and general manager for the company’s Computing Systems Product Group, responsible for the UCS server and management portfolio.
As CTO of Dell’s Enterprise Solutions Group, Perez will focus on leading the architecture, design and build-out of the next wave of Dell’s future-ready data center technologies.
At Cisco, Perez also served as CTO for its data centre business group and he oversaw the company’s technology strategy for converged infrastructure, virtualization and private cloud automation. Prior to Cisco, Perez was the chief technologist at Hewlett-Packard for its ProLiant and BladeSystem infrastructure.
Perez will serve as the chief technical advisor for the Dell Enterprise Solutions Group to drive Dell’s long-term enterprise technology strategy. He also will collaborate with server, storage, networking and engineered solutions teams on near-term product and solutions roadmaps.
Both Read and Perez will report to Marius Haas, chief commercial officer and president of Enterprise Solutions Group, Dell.
