Cisco India retains Ethernet switch and router market lead

Cisco is the Ethernet switch and router market leader with 65.9 percent share in Q4 2014. The Ethernet switch and router market share of Juniper is 7.7 percent, HP 6.2 percent, Huawei 2.4 percent and D-Link 1.7 percent.

Networking market in India — including LAN and WLAN hardware – rose 20 percent in 2014, said IDC.

The Indian Ethernet Switch market increased 27.5 percent year-on-year and fell 4.7 percent quarter on quarter to $125 million in Q4 2014. The router market increased 41.1 percent year on year and decreased 9.3 percent quarter on quarter to $69.4 million in Q4 2014.

IDC said projects such as Digital India and Smart Cities are expected to see some pilots and testing in the year 2015. Innovation in networks would be backed by developments in SDN and NFV space and the market is expected to become more solution centric.

The Indian WLAN market rose 3.8 percent quarter on quarter and  47.5 percent year on year to $45 million in Q4 2014 — driven by the traditional segments such as the enterprises and campuses.

WLAN market leader D-Link

Education and Professional Services verticals topped the list in contributing to the WLAN market in India during Q4 2014. The continued deployment of hot-spots by government and investments from SMB segment are expected to continue in the coming quarters as well.

D-Link is the WLAN market leader with 36.6 percent share in Q4 2014, said IDC. The WLAN market share of Cisco is 21.3 percent, Netgear 8.8 percent, TP Link 8.5 percent and Ruckus 4.8 percent in the fourth quarter of last year.

CY 2015 is expected to attract investments from various verticals, especially, Government, telecom and BFSI with education and healthcare playing their part in the WLAN space.
