New research from Omdia reveals that global spending on games peripherals and accessories surpassed $10 billion in 2023, with projected revenue expected to reach nearly $12 billion by 2029.
The findings, published in Omdia’s “Games Peripherals and Accessories Market Forecast 2024,” highlight the significant role of gamepads, which accounted for 44.3 percent of the total spend in 2023. This segment is anticipated to maintain its market share through 2029.
Other key categories, including headsets, keyboards, and mice, also contributed significantly to the market, with each except for mice representing billion-dollar-plus segments. This year’s research also marks the first time Omdia has segmented gamepad revenue by brand, offering insights into the performance of Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and other brands across 10 countries and additional regions.
The “Other” category, encompassing high-value peripherals such as gamer chairs and steering wheels, is expected to see the strongest growth from 2024 to 2029. This growth is supported by the continued popularity of consoles and the rising use of gamepads among PC gamers.
The United States emerged as the largest contributor to global revenue, generating $2.6 billion in 2023. China is also a key market, projected to surpass $2 billion by the end of this year. The report highlights a notable trend of price elasticity in the premium peripherals market, with products like PlayStation’s DualSense controller achieving strong sales despite their high cost.
The increasing adoption of controllers by PC gamers, evidenced by Steam’s report of a threefold increase in controller usage since 2018, suggests positive factors driving the market beyond traditional console gaming. The sector is expected to experience a 2.9 percent annual growth rate from 2024 to 2029.
