Tripura Police to accept FIR through SMS, e-mail

Kerala Police
An FIR can now be filed with Tripura Police through an SMS or via an e-mail, an official statement said here Sunday.

“Tripura Police have taken an initiative to register FIR (First Information Report) through an SMS or through an e-mail,” said a police statement.

The statement said the complaint must indicate the name and address of complainant, the nature of the offence and the place of occurrence.

Earlier, Tripura Police as part of their initiatives to curb rising crimes against women launched a toll-free helpline number for women in distress to lodge their complaints.

“The helpline (1091) would be operational 24 hours and anyone across the state can dial the number to seek help or alert the police,” a police spokesman told IANS.
