Delhi to relaunch auto-rickshaw booking mobile app

Auto rikshaws in Chennai
Like taxis, Delhiites will now be able to book auto-rickshaws through a mobile app which the state government will relaunch on October 22, Delhi’s Transport Minister Gopal Rai announced on Thursday.

He said the government will link about 90,000 auto-rickshaws plying in the capital.

Last year, the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) had launched this mobile app, called POOCH-O.

Rai said the relaunched app will have more features.

To register on the app, auto-rickshaw drivers will have to send their mobile numbers to a central number that will be announced on October 15.

Rai said the decision was taken after consulting representatives of auto-rickshaw drivers who met him on Thursday.

Of late, more and more people are using services of online cab providers which are relatively cheaper than other taxi services.

The government had banned online cab services after a woman was allegedly raped by a cab driver last year. The ban was extended in June when they were found not complying with the existing norms.
