Amazon’s cashier-less checkout technology reaches 200 plus

Amazon.com’s cashier-less checkout technology is available in more than 200 establishments in and outside the company, Reuters news report said.
Amazon GoThe e-commerce and cloud-computing giant is widening deployment of its contactless technology with existing customers, Vice President Dilip Kumar said.

Amazon declined to provide growth figures. In June 2022, Amazon.com said more than 69 locations in the U.S. and UK had cashier-less checkout technology.

How to shop at Amazon Go?

You need an Amazon account, the free Amazon Shopping app, and a iPhone or Android smartphone. You can find the Amazon Shopping app in the Apple App Store, Google Play, and Amazon Appstore.

When you arrive, open the app, tap “In-Store Code,” and scan in with the QR code presented. Browse and shop like you would at any other store. You can leave the store after completing your shopping and there will be no queue or checkout.

At select Amazon Go store locations, you can also enter the store by using a credit card linked to your Amazon account or by using Amazon One. Amazon One is a fast, convenient, contactless way for people to use their palm to enter and pay for items purchased at Amazon Go.

Amazon.com is making new deals. On Wednesday the U.S. cafe chain Panera Bread unveiled Amazon One devices, which let customers scan their palms to pay, for two locations in greater St. Louis. Dilip Kumar said the deployment would expand to 10 to 20 Panera cafes in coming months.

A palm swipe would also let Panera pull up restaurant goers’ rewards accounts and order histories, the companies said. The business model involves selling software and devices as a service.

More than 50 of Amazon’s contactless technology installations were with the likes of independent retailers, stadiums and university customers, and the rest were in Whole Foods and other Amazon stores.
