Krafton Inc., the creative force behind popular games like BGMI, has announced a substantial investment of $150 million in India’s gaming and startup ecosystem.
Over the next two to three years, Krafton plans to foster growth and innovation in the country’s technology and gaming industries, with a particular focus on content-based platforms and deep tech solutions.
Sean Hyunil Sohn, CEO of Krafton India, expressed unwavering confidence in India’s potential as a pivotal player in the global gaming and technology landscape.
“Our commitment to invest an additional $150 million over the next two to three years reflects our dedication to fueling this growth,” Sean Hyunil Sohn said.
He emphasized the company’s belief in the influential role of Indian intellectual properties (IPs) and content in leaving a lasting mark on the global stage.
Since its initial investment in March 2021, Krafton has already injected approximately $140 million into 11 innovative startups. This move showcases the company’s commitment to nurturing and propelling India’s entrepreneurial spirit. Notably, Krafton’s investments span a diverse range of sectors that complement its core gaming focus. These sectors include Esports, multimedia entertainment, content creation, and audio platforms.
In a strategic shift, Krafton has expanded its investment horizon to encompass the creator economy and deep tech. By actively supporting startups in these emerging segments, Krafton aims to drive forward new and groundbreaking technologies that have the potential to reshape industries.
Nihansh Bhat, the lead for corporate development and venture investing in India and the MENA region at Krafton, affirmed the company’s intention to maintain its investment momentum.
In addition to the immensely popular BGMI, Krafton has launched several other engaging games in the Indian market, including The Callisto Protocol, Road To Valor: Empires, and Defense Derby. This multifaceted approach underscores Krafton’s dedication to providing diverse and captivating gaming experiences to its ever-growing audience.
