Sony Interactive, the gaming division of Sony Group, has sold more than 40 million PlayStation 5 consoles to gamers since the launch of PlayStation 5 in November 2020, citing the easing of supply chain problems.
“It took months for supply chains to normalise so we could have the inventory to keep up with demand,” Sony Interactive CEO Jim Ryan wrote in a blog post.
“Now PS5 supply is well-stocked and we are seeing that pent up demand finally being met.”
The Japanese tech and entertainment conglomerate has said it expects to sell 25 million PS5 units this year, which would be a record for any PlayStation device.
Sony’s latest console is closing the gap with the PS4 console, said Piers Harding-Rolls, analyst at Ampere Analysis.
Over the past two and a half years, Sony Interactive has unveiled new ways gamers can customize the experience and bring exciting colors into their homes. Sony Interactive developed a range of colors for the DualSense wireless controller and PS5 console covers. These accessories have proven really popular as players want their PS5 to reflect their taste.
Sony Interactive delivered innovations like the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback in the DualSense controller, as well as PlayStation VR2. PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners have jumped in to take advantage of these capabilities and expand their creative toolkit to deliver a generational leap in the experiences they bring to gamers.
