Seagate announced that it is shipping its 2TB, 7mm hard disk drive (HDD), the Seagate Mobile HDD.

The company claimed that the product is first of its kind in the world and enables a richer and more rewarding experience for users without compromising demand for laptops that are slim, light, and powerful.

“Laptops today must satisfy consumer demand for fast computing and high capacity storage capabilities on one hand, while also offering compelling designs and slim styling on the other,”  said Matt Rutledge, Seagate’s senior vice president, client storage.

“With the introduction of Seagate’s new Mobile HDD, laptop manufacturers no longer need to make tradeoffs between these seemingly competing mandates,” Rutledge said.

Weighing 3.17 oz., the Mobile HDD is 25 percent lighter than the previous generation of mobile hard drives.

“The drive’s high capacity, coupled with its ultra-slim, lightweight footprint, empowers our engineers to create truly ground-breaking, innovative system designs,” said JH Pan, director of SYS BG business operation department, ASUS.
