India’s PC market – in terms of shipment — rose 7.1 percent to 3.39 million units in 2Q2024, IDC said.

All three PC categories — desktop, notebook, and workstation — grew by 5.9 percent, 7.4 percent and 12.4 percent respectively, according to the recent data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker.

PC performance
Consumer PC segment rose 11.2 percent thanks to demand from both online and offline channels. The e-tail channel grew by 22.4 percent. This is the fourth consecutive quarter of growth for the consumer PC segment.
The commercial PC segment grew by 3.5 percent fueled by demand in the SMB and LB segments which grew by 12.4 percent and 33.1 percent, respectively.
“Vendors kickstarted the back-to-school/ college campaigns, and good demand was seen in the e-tail channel as well during online sales. Vendors stocked the channel to prepare for upcoming Independence Day sales, which gave a healthy growth in consumer PC shipments,” Bharath Shenoy, Research Manager, IDC India & South Asia, said.
Top 5 PC vendors
HP (31.7 percent), Lenovo (17.5 percent), Dell (14.8 percent), Acer (14.7 percent), and Asus (7.1 percent) are the leading PC makers in India during Q2 2024.
HP has 33.5 percent share in the commercial PC business. On the other hand, HPE has 29.7 percent share in the consumer PC segment.
HP has 34.4 percent share in the notebook category driven by demand for consumer notebooks and fulfillment of some key enterprise orders.
Lenovo has 32.7 percent share in the consumer PC business. On the other hand, Lenovo has 6.3 percent share in the commercial PC segment.
Lenovo fared well in the SMB segment, growing by 16.5 percent YoY. Good demand on e-tail channel and continued push in the SMB segment with a good mix of AMD-powered devices in the channel helped Lenovo’s improved performance.
Dell Technologies’ commercial desktop business declined 15.9 percent due to pricing pressure from its peers in government and enterprise orders.
Dell Technologies achieved 6.4 percent growth in the consumer PC segment. Dell had a good back-to-school/college campaign and managed good traction in offline channels.
Acer Group achieved growth of 38.3 percent. Acer has 27.6 percent share in desktop category. Acer managed to fulfill some key government and BFSI orders.
Asus achieved a growth of 5.4 percent. Asus witnessed 131.7 percent growth in the commercial PC segment.
“The onset of AI PCs and several launches has definitely brought a wave of optimism in the India PC market. AI PCs will drive refresh commercial orders from 3Q2024 onwards,” Navkendar Singh, Associate Vice President, Devices Research, IDC India, South Asia & ANZ said.
