Intel Core Ultra Launched, Transforming PCs into AI-Powered Machines

Intel has unveiled its groundbreaking chip called Intel Core Ultra, heralding a new chapter in personal computing as the tech giant aims to usher consumers into an era defined by advanced AI capabilities.

Among the prominent names partnering with Intel are Dell Technologies, Microsoft, and Lenovo Group, whose laptops featuring the innovative chip will hit shelves at Best Buy and other major global retailers this Thursday. Notably, the release extends to platforms like China’s JD.com and Australia’s Harvey Norman.

According to the latest Canalys report, PC market is expected to achieve 5 percent growth in Q4 2023, boosted by a strong holiday season.

PC market in 2024 is forecast to hit 267 million units, landing 8 percent higher than in 2023, helped by tailwinds including the Windows refresh cycle and emergence of AI-capable and Arm-based devices, Canalys said.

This cutting-edge chip marks a significant milestone for Intel, blending its traditional central processor units (CPUs) with a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU) designed specifically for handling AI tasks. Intel’s strategic move aligns with the current drive to entice users into upgrading their devices for a new wave of AI-driven experiences, Reuters news report said.

Intel’s CEO, Pat Gelsinger, emphasized the transformative potential of their chips during the event. Gelsinger highlighted the cost-effectiveness, speed, and privacy enhancements that Intel’s chips would bring to AI services compared to cloud-based alternatives.

The “Meteor Lake” chip was showcased in a September demonstration, revealing its capabilities in AI functions like voice note transcription without relying on third-party cloud providers and generating music akin to popular artist Taylor Swift’s style.

Termed the Intel Core Ultra, this innovation signifies the most significant architectural overhaul in Intel’s history, promising enhancements in CPU computing, graphics, power efficiency, battery life, and groundbreaking AI features. Gelsinger stated that this launch marks the most significant shift in the PC experience since the untethering of laptops for Wi-Fi connectivity with Intel Centrino 20 years ago.

Moreover, Intel announced collaborations with over 100 software vendors to introduce a myriad of AI-boosted applications to the PC market. This partnership is expected to revolutionize the PC experience by offering a diverse range of creative, productive, and entertaining applications tailored for Intel Core Ultra-based systems.

The Intel Core Ultra-based AI PCs are now available at selected U.S. retailers, just in time for the holiday season. Intel projects that within a year, over 230 laptop and PC designs from various manufacturers worldwide will integrate the Intel Core Ultra chip, constituting 80 percent of the PC market by 2028. This shift is anticipated to introduce new paradigms in how individuals work, learn, and create, fueled by the capabilities of AI.

Intel’s bold step towards integrating AI into personal computing is poised to reshape the landscape of technological experiences, offering users a transformative leap into the future of AI-driven capabilities within their everyday devices.
