HP leads Indian PC market with 25% share, Lenovo, Acer, Dell, Apple dip in Q2

HP is leading the PC market — desktop, notebook and tablets — in India with 25.4 percent share in the second quarter of 2013, Canalys said. Lenovo is in the second position with 8.2 percent PC market share.

According to Canalys PC market estimates, HP increased its market share to 25.4 percent in Q2 2013 from 10.9 percent in Q2 2012.

HP recently won several notebook deals from government.

Market share of Lenovo, Acer, Dell and Apple declined in the second quarter.

Out of this, shipments of Lenovo and Apple increased in Q2 2013 than Q2 2012.

Lenovo’s PC market share decreased to 8.2 percent from 9.7 percent.

PC market share of Acer decreased to 8 percent from 10.8 percent in India.

Dell’s PC market share declined to 7.3 percent from 10.9 percent. The major set back was for Dell.

Apple’s market share in the Indian PC market dipped to 3.8 percent from 4.1 percent.

Total PC shipments in India rose 27.2 percent to 47,32,410 in the second quarter of 2013, Canalys said. The growth in India is despite PC shipments in the Asia Pacific region declining 0.5 percent year-on-year to over 40 million units.

For comparison, Q2 PC shipments in China decreased approximately 6 percent. China accounted for almost 45 percent of the region’s shipments.

Canalys on Tuesday announced the top 5 list of PC and tablet vendors in the second quarter of 2013. Apple is leading the list.

The global PC market posted flat growth. Out of this, tablet shipments rose 42.9 percent. Desktop shipments decreased 7.4 percent. Notebook shipments declined 13.9 percent. ( top 5 list of PC and tablet vendors )

Despite tablet growth slowing in Q2, Canalys still believes that tablets will outsell notebooks by Q4 of this year.
