The latest TrendForce report has highlighted how the global gaming industry is fuelling the demand for the monitor market in 2025.
Analysts at TrendForce say that the gaming industry continues to fuel the monitor market, with global LCD gaming monitor panel shipments surpassing 32.42 million units in 2024, reflecting a 12 percent increase. This growth was primarily driven by Chinese panel makers, who expanded their presence in the gaming segment to improve profitability.
Companies like HKC, CSOT, and BOE saw shipment increases of nearly 50 percent, 40 percent, and over 20 percent, respectively, largely due to the late-2024 release of the highly anticipated game Black Myth: Wukong, which significantly boosted demand in China.
However, the momentum is expected to slow in 2025, with shipments forecasted to grow at a more modest 5 percent to reach approximately 34 million units.
The absence of demand catalysts, such as esports’ inclusion in the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games and the launch of Black Myth: Wukong, coupled with profitability struggles in mainstream 165Hz models, is contributing to this slowdown.
As a result, while HKC will continue expanding aggressively, other panel makers are expected to take a more conservative approach. Meanwhile, the OLED gaming monitor panel segment experienced 132 percent growth in 2024, driven by the mass production of 27-inch and 31.5-inch models and aggressive price reductions by SDC.
Though more brands are expected to invest in OLED gaming monitors in 2025, the focus will shift toward maintaining a premium positioning, slowing price cuts and resulting in a projected 40 percent shipment increase, marking the transition to a steadier growth phase.
