Gaming Monitors and Gaming PC Market to Grow in 2024, IDC Reports

There will be growth in gaming monitors and gaming PC market in 2024, the latest IDC indicated.
Gaming PC and monitor report IDC 2024
IDC forecasts 1 percent growth for gaming PCs in 2024, with notebooks emerging as the primary growth driver.

Conversely, gaming monitors shipments are projected to reach 22.2 million units, marking a growth of 13.6 percent in 2024, the report said.

Global shipments for gaming PCs experienced a decline mirroring the broader PC market in 2023, dropping by 13.2 percent year-over-year to 44 million units, IDC said.

However, in a surprising turn, gaming monitors defied this trend, registering a growth of 20.3 percent over the same period, driven by lower pricing strategies, IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Gaming Tracker said.

Shipments for gaming PCs have been a bit more buoyant due to sustained demand. Most importantly, there’s been an upward trend in pricing as the premium segment of the market has remained strong and will continue to see growth in the coming years thanks to dedicated and more affluent buyers who seem to be less impacted by the economy, Jitesh Ubrani, research manager for IDC’s Mobility and Consumer Device Trackers, said.

There was a remarkable recovery in gaming monitor volume, attributing it to factors such as declining prices and ongoing innovations.

“At $300, gaming monitors are an essential and cost-effective part of the PC gaming experience. Drop in prices and innovations have led to adoption of specs like refresh rates exceeding 165 Hz, response times of 1ms or less, and an increasing shift towards higher resolutions (1440P or greater),” Jay Chou, research manager for IDC’s Worldwide Client Devices Trackers, said.

Looking beyond 2024, IDC projects further growth in the gaming market, with PC volume expected to reach 52 million units by 2028 and gaming monitors reaching 29.6 million units.

Additionally, gaming monitor prices are anticipated to decrease annually, while gaming PCs are expected to see a shift towards higher average selling prices, reaching $1101 as notebooks and premium GPUs gain traction in the market.
