Amazon has announced the launch of its first color Kindle e-reader, named the “Kindle Colorsoft,” priced at $280.

After years of development, Amazon is now entering the color e-reader market, offering an immersive experience for readers. The Colorsoft’s price falls within the range of $149 to $330, similar to other color e-readers available on Amazon.
The Kindle Colorsoft uses LED technology to deliver its vibrant display, a departure from Amazon’s typical eInk technology used in standard Kindles. This new device will have an approximate battery life of eight weeks, compared to the three-month battery life of Amazon’s latest generation Paperwhite e-reader.
In addition to the Colorsoft, Amazon introduced a new Paperwhite e-reader featuring a slightly larger 7-inch screen, as well as an updated Kindle Scribe. The Scribe allows users to write directly on the screen with a stylus, and it incorporates artificial intelligence software that can summarize notes into bullet points.
Despite increasing competition, Amazon remains the dominant player in the e-reader market, holding over 75 percent market share. The pandemic contributed to a surge in e-reader use, as libraries offered wireless e-book downloads during lockdowns.
Amazon’s Kindle is available now starting at $109.99. Kindle Paperwhite is available now starting at $159.99, and Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition is available for $189.99.
Amazon’s Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition Signature Edition will ship on October 30 and is available now for preorder at $279.99. The new Kindle Scribe will ship on December 4 and is available now for preorder starting at $399.99.
