Acer to make $9 mn investment in VR company Starbreeze

PC maker Acer is set to make investment in the equity of virtual reality (VR) company Starbreeze.

The $9 million investment will be in Starbreeze’s two-year bond convertible to B-shares. Acer is expected to make more investment.

Acer expects the investment in Starbreeze will enhance Acer’s position in the virtual reality (VR) ecosystem. Acer believes VR business has a huge potential beyond PC gaming. VR is set to unlock new possibilities for many other industries such as entertainment, retail, transportation, and education.

Acer also signed a definitive agreement with Starbreeze to form a joint venture for the design, manufacturing, promotion, marketing and sales of the StarVR Virtual Reality (VR) Head-Mounted Display (HMD).
