Web Werks and Iron Mountain to Invest Over Rs 1,800 Crore in Two Data Centers in Chennai

IT giant Web Werks, in collaboration with Iron Mountain Data Centers, announced its plan to invest over Rs 1,800 crore in the construction of two cutting-edge data centers in Chennai.
Web Werks data centerThe data centers, designated as CHE-1 and CHE-2, will be situated on a four-acre plot in Ambattur, marking a significant expansion of the company’s infrastructure to meet the escalating demand for data storage and processing capabilities.

These data centers are designed to support a total IT load of 36 megawatts, further bolstering Web Werks’ expanding pan-India footprint. The company aims to provide more than 90 megawatts of new development capacity across key cities like Pune, Bengaluru, Noida, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.

Mark Kidd, EVP and Global General Manager of Iron Mountain Data Centers and Asset Lifecycle Management, expressed excitement about the venture, stating, “As Chennai stands as one of India’s paramount connectivity hubs, we are eager to augment our capacity to meet the escalating demand from hyperscale, network, content, public sector undertakings, and enterprise customers.”

Web Werks has meticulously curated a comprehensive suite of colocation and hosting services, tailored to deliver wholesale, retail, and hyper-scale hosting facilities through strategically planned Tier 3 data center facilities located in Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, and Pune. Expanding its reach, Web Werks is now venturing into new data center facilities in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai.

Nikhil Rathi, Founder and CEO of Web Werks, elaborated on the strategic decision, stating, “Data center ecosystems necessitate submarine cables, local consumption, and internet traffic to thrive. Chennai stands out as an ideal location for data centers due to these factors, coupled with ample land, power, and connectivity options.”
