Texas University selects ViaWest to provide colocation services

Infotech Lead America: The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) has selected ViaWest to provide colocation services. UT Dallas chose to outsource its colocation requirements to ViaWest instead of building its own data center.

UT Dallas has more than 130 degree programs in the fields of science, engineering, biomedical engineering, arts and technology. The University wants a flexible solution to accommodate growth and scale. ViaWest’s colocation solutions can be easily integrated with other services such as managed services – creating the ultimate in personalized configurations.

“Education is a vital resource that is experiencing tremendous growth rates due to a proliferation of data,” said John Greenwood, regional vice president of Sales and General Manager for ViaWest.

Many organizations like UT Dallas face challenges and complexities associated with building and managing their own data center versus outsourcing to a reliable partner.

By outsourcing to ViaWest, UT Dallas can leverage power, utility and other system redundancies, in addition to ensuring they have the latest in technological innovations.

“With the level of research conducted on campus, UT Dallas needs a solution to allow for growth to support the rising data storage demands,” states Calvin Jamison, Vice President for Administration.  “This partnership agreement helps us plan for the future. In addition, the team at ViaWest shares in the culture of UT Dallas, to produce the highest quality work, within a family atmosphere.”

ViaWest’s colocation solutions provide security, disaster mitigation, fire detection and suppression over redundant, diverse infrastructure that is built to maximize uptime. Each of ViaWest’s 24 data center facilities offer a number of space options, from private suites, lockable cages, and cabinets in half and full size. Space, power and bandwidth are key elements of ViaWest’s colocation, ensuring customers applications and equipment are always available.
