NTT DATA, a global IT infrastructure and services company, has revealed plans to construct and operate its third data center campus in Berlin.
This strategic move aligns with NTT DATA’s global expansion initiative, aimed at meeting the escalating demand for data utilization and computation.
The project is part of an investment exceeding $10 billion earmarked for data center growth spanning fiscal years 2023-27 across key markets worldwide.
Spanning an extensive area of 10.8 hectares (approximately 26.6 acres), the new campus will house two data centers with a planned capacity of 96MW of critical IT load. Situated 30 kilometers west of Berlin, in the municipality of Brieselang, construction of the campus is slated to commence in 2025.
NTT DATA’s decision to fortify its foothold in Berlin underscores the city’s burgeoning significance, underscored by its strategic geographical positioning, escalating infrastructure density, diverse client demands, and proximity to the federal government.
Currently, NTT DATA operates 48 data centers across seven countries in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, boasting a cumulative critical IT load of over 429MW and a planned expansion of 212MW.
Doug Adams, Chief Executive Officer and President of NTT Global Data Centers, emphasized Berlin’s pivotal role in the company’s expansion trajectory, stating, “Berlin is an important market in our growing portfolio and expansion plans.”
Doug Adams iterated that the development not only consolidates NTT DATA’s presence but also sets the stage for further penetration into Tier 2 markets, thereby fostering sustained growth and leadership within the data center industry.
Florian Winkler, Chief Executive Officer EMEA and Global Chief Operating Officer, NTT Global Data Centers, reiterated the company’s commitment to expanding its footprint across Tier 1 and Tier 2 markets in Europe.
Florian Winkler highlighted the strategic significance of the Berlin expansion, leveraging past successes in developing and operating data centers across continental Europe and the UK, and emphasized the collaborative partnership with local authorities and stakeholders.
NTT DATA has recently announced its data center campus outside Paris. NTT DATA is also making huge investment in data center projects in Virginia, United States, and Noida and Chennai, India. NTT DATA aims at achieving net-zero emissions and sourcing 100 percent renewable energy for its operations by 2030.
