MTS plans $50 million data center in Manitoba

Manitoba Telecom Services (MTS) is planning to set up a multi-tenant data center in Manitoba with a cost of $50 million.

The new data center is expected to open in 2015. MTS aims to become a leading provider of server colocation, managed hosting and cloud services in Manitoba.

“Our business customers are using cloud computing to store and process ever-expanding amounts of data,” said MTS CEO Pierre Blouin.

MTS’s new data centre, which is designed to serve multiple businesses and allow for expansion, will be approximately 70,000 ft2 in size.

The company plans to leverage Manitoba’s cooler climate, lower real estate costs, and supply of clean, economical power to offer customers a cost-effective data storage solution.

EPIC Information Solutions, which was acquired by MTS recently, will provide the skills and expertise needed to effectively operate the new data centre.
