MainOne, an Equinix Company, has unveiled its expanded open-access Data Center, AB1.2, in VITIB, Grand Bassam, Cote d’Ivoire, as part of its ongoing efforts to support the growing digital demands in Cote d’Ivoire and Francophone West Africa.
The launch, scheduled for November 2023, signifies a significant step toward enhancing digital connectivity and fostering innovation in the region.
MainOne’s new data center, AB1.2, is designed to cater to the escalating need for data processing, storage, and connectivity. By offering a comprehensive range of services, including connectivity, colocation, and interconnection, the facility aims to empower businesses, enabling them to thrive in the digital age.
The data center will provide secure and compliant data storage solutions, granting businesses access to global services such as the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX), fostering seamless international connectivity, the company said.
This expansion comes at a time when MainOne has been actively contributing to the digital transformation landscape in the region. Notably, MainOne’s MDXi Appolonia, a Tier III data center launched in Accra, Ghana, in 2021, has played a pivotal role in addressing data sovereignty concerns. By offering secure and compliant data storage within Ghana, the facility has significantly improved internet accessibility, reduced latency, and enhanced the overall internet user experience in the country. The success of MDXi Appolonia is evidenced by the remarkable increase in internet penetration figures, rising from 47 percent in 2021 to 72 percent as of May 2023, as reported by the National Communication Authority, Ghana.
MainOne’s impact extends beyond individual countries, as demonstrated by its recent partnership with the Ghana Internet Exchange (GIX) network. This collaboration, announced at the 12th edition of the African Peering and Interconnection Forum (AfPIF) 2023 event in Accra, aims to drive digital transformation and connectivity across Africa. By actively participating in forums like AfPIF, MainOne is fostering knowledge sharing, creating opportunities for businesses, and strengthening digital infrastructure across the continent.
Additionally, MainOne’s acquisition by Equinix in 2022 has further bolstered its capabilities, connecting businesses to a vast network of 248 data centers in 71 metros and 32 countries. This strategic alliance has paved the way for MainOne to contribute significantly to the digital landscape, supporting infrastructure development, job creation, and knowledge sharing.
